Default Submitting whole PDF to server

    Hello all,

I am working on a small project and cannot seem to locate the information I require... I have a PDF form that has been created in Adobe Acrobat Professional. I have created a submit button and set it's action to submit a form and set the format to "PDF The Complete Document".

The vast majority of the end users, if not all of them, will be using the free Acrobat Reader to fill out this form.

    I have two questions:

    1) I have seen mixed answers as to if the free reader is capable of uploading "The Complete Document". I do not see why there would be a limitation on this, since after all the CREATOR of the document paid for a license for Acrobat Professional and has set the properties to allow uploading of the full document. So, I guess this question is: Can Acrobat Reader upload the full document, if so set in the properties when the document was created?

    2) On the server side, what sort of script would I need to receive the file being uploaded? I am proficient with PHP, Perl, C, and several other languages I could use to write the required CGI script. However, I cannot seem to locate any information on how the file is posted (I assume the file is being POST'd)... What argument name is used to contain the data being uploaded? Are there any other options passed via the reader to the receiving CGI script?

    Thank you,

To eliminate "mixed answers" I'll tell you flat out that Reader cannot submit the entire PDF (unless you've enabled save rights with Dcoument Server with Reader Extensions).

Check out Page 198 of the Acrobat 6 JavaScript Reference:

NOTE: Save rights required: The PDF choice is not
available in Adobe Reader, unless the document has
    save rights.

There is a limitation on this because Adobe doesn't want Reader to be able to save completed documents unless you've used Doc Server w/Reader Extensions.

Generally you would only have the form data submitted and just load it into your document on site to read if desired. For the latter, the data must be submitted in FDF format and received as an FDF file or processed with the FDF server-side software. The alternative is to have the dta submitted in HTML format and not FDF. Thus you would get the data as you would with any other HTML form and write the script accordingly.

The whole document issue is appropriately addressed by WT. If you want to be able to create forms with that write, look for about $75k in funds to pay for it. Unless you are doing a lot of that type of work the additional option is not really and option due to cost.
