Re: suggestions for button making
Making buttons really depends on what your site is going to be doing. Do
you want animation, do you need animation? Is your site static, or do you
want dynamically changing buttons? What is the target audience of your
site? All these and more need to be answered before you decide what program
to use. Attack the specs of the site first, then choose the best product
for the job:
Flash MX: Strengths are animation, high quality vector graphics, low
download for the end user plug in wise, no need for tables, ect.
Weaknesses: not everyone has Flash player on their computer (like 2% of
computer users, but it is still worth noting). Flash Player 6 has 89%
penetration, so 11% do not have the correct player on their computer.
Dreamweaver MX: Strengths: Creates HTML, Cold Fusion, PHP scripts for you
on the fly. Weaknesses, does not create graphics for you, Fireworks or
Photoshop are needed there. Also, precreated code sometimes is hard to go
into and weed out the stuff you need compared to the stuff Macromedia puts
into code to cover their butts.
Adobe PhotoPaint: As far as I know this is the knockoff version of
Photoshop, and probably won't give you the tools to make what you need web
wise, at least not optimized sufficiently. You need Fireworks or
Photoshop/ImageReady for that.
Corel: Many people swear by it, but I don't use it much, so I can't comment
on that product.
Buying studio MX will give you what you need to get started, but I highly
recommend buying some books on the programs that are in the MX studio so you
know how to optimize graphics and create Flash animations properly.
Good luck.
