symcheckupstub.exe
Why is Norton magically on my computer when I installed Shockwave.
I-DO-NOT-WANT-IT. It angers me that a piece of software from a company that I
hate, forces itself on me. Norton acts as malware itself, and slows my computer
down. I do not trust the company, I do not trust Norton.
So please, tell me, why is it included with Shockwave Player? How do I get rid
of it? I'm willing to avoid anything requiring Shockwave Player, if that's what
it takes to get rid of it. Is this the only solution?

Re: symcheckupstub.exe
While I understand your frustration, I'm pretty sure you only have to
decline installation (uncheck the box) while Shockwave installs to avoid
the Norton payload

Re: symcheckupstub.exe
Thank you for your reply. There was a window to verify installation of the
Google toolbar, but nothing reguarding Symantec or it's products. Do you know
if "symcheckupstub.exe" is packaged with the Google toolbar? During this latest
installation, "symcheckupstub.exe" is no longer present (at least not yet), but
"SYMCCHECKER.DLL" is still present. I'm not convinced "symcheckupstub.exe"
isn't generated by "SYMCCHECKER.DLL". Even though I did not install the Google
toolbar, "gt.exe" is still present as well.

Re: symcheckupstub.exe
I think the Symantec stuff might be left over from a previous payload. I
can't remember who Adobe are currently prostituting the Shockwave
installer to. Either way (Google or Symantec), they should only install
as toolbars under IE; so if you use another browser you won't see them,
and if you don't see them in IE then they aren't installed.
