$$ syntax - PHP Development

I have seen this a few times but I am not familiar with what it means. Could somebody explain. example: $$val=$var; -- Koncept << "The snake that cannot shed its skin perishes. So do the spirits who are prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be a spirit." -Nietzsche...

    Could somebody explain.

    example: $$val=$var;

    --
    Koncept <<
    "The snake that cannot shed its skin perishes. So do the spirits who are
    prevented from changing their opinions; they cease to be a spirit."

    "Koncept" <invalid> kirjoitti
    viestissä:080420051326355594%invalid...

    $a = "cat";
    $cat = 5;
    echo $$a;// prints 5

    $$a calls a variable of which name is in the string $a. Think it like
    evaluating the name of a variable from another. if $a = cat, then $$a = $cat
