Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
I don't even know what you call this so searching for the problem is a little
tough. I have created some pages with a white background where I use tables to
align and separate. On some of my pages, the little gray lines that edge the
tables are gone (these are borderless tables) When I mouse over the table
edges, they turn red. On other pages within this same site, the tables still
have little gray dotted lines showing the table borders. Does anyone know what
I might have done on some of these pages to make the gray edges go away? I want
them back! It makes the tables SO much easier to see. For what it's worth,
these aren't new pages I've recently created, it's a site I've been editing for
a long time.

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
Since this seems to be happening only on certain pages, I think it must be the
properties of those tables rather than a Preference setting. I would compare
the properties (border, bordercolor, etc.) from the table where you see the
edges to the table where you don't.
BTW Do the tables with no visible edges have more than one cell? If so, do you
see the borders between the cells but not the border around the table?
As you mouse-over the table edge, DW highlights it in red. When you see red,
then you can click to select the entire table.

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
Elaine,
All my table borders are 0, the tables are invisible and just help me to align
the items on the page as I want them. Even if I try to create a new table on
the pages in question, they come out without the little gray dotted guidelines.
Yes, when I mouseover them they are highlighted in red, but I would really
prefer to see them all. I'm guessing it's a page setting, not an individual
table setting? It's driving me crazy because when I have a problem, I can't
immediately see the layout. And no, on the tables where there is more than one
cell, I don't see the center lines either.
Thank you,
Pam

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
Inn the View menu, do you have Visual Aids, Table Borders unchecked on those pages?

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
Elaine,
Sorry for the delay in responding: yes, I have that checked on all pages. Still no lines on the select pages.
Thank you,
Pamela

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
I would think the Visual Aid was the issue. Do you see a difference in those
files with it checked vs. unchecked?
If that doesn't help, you could try using Expanded mode in the Layout section
of the Insert bar. With tables, this will temporarily expand the visual look of
the table in Design view, which makes it easier to select cells or add content
to them. You toggle between Expanded mode and Standard mode by clicking the
buttons on the Layout bar.

Re: Table problem: my guide lines have vanished
That sounded plausible and I was hoping it was the problem too, but alas, not.
I did compare the settings between these pages and the ones where the borders
were still visible and I could not find a difference in settings anywhere.
I did notice that in expanded mode there were lines almost like a border
setting at 1 pixel, so that will have to be the fix for now. It's better than
nothing! Thank you for your help.
Sincerely,
Pamela
