Tables in phpmyadmin
Hi
Does anyone know how I should set up a simple users table (Name, Password and
Email) in phpmyadmin, so that I can use the filter section of a recordset to
display individual users on a separate page when they have clicked the link of
that individual from a list of everybody. When in a recordset for my users
table I can see all of the info in the databse by clicking test, but when I try
to use the filter for this table I can't seem to work out what I should do. And
I think it must be the table configuration that is causing the problem. So if
you know of a good tutorial or can help otherwise I would be greatful. I am
sure it's something simple but I can't figure it out. Thanks in advance.

Re: Tables in phpmyadmin
Hi Phil,
If I understand what you're saying, it's not a database structure issue. It's
about the way you should pass the URL parameter (the user ID). Well, you should
set a primary key for your users table - that is the ID (so add another field
to your table).
Suppose you have 2 pages: list (the users list) and detail (that displays the
details for each user).
Open the list page, create a simple recordset that will retrieve all the
records from your users table and apply a Dynamic Table (in Dreamweaver of
course :D) from the Insert panel > Application tab. At the end of the generated
table add another column and write Details on the second row. Now you will make
a link out of the Details text that will pass the ID of the selected user and
redirect to his details page. Select the Details text and go to the Property
inspector. Click the Browse for file (little folder icon) button corresponding
to the link. In the Select file dialog window, choose the detail page for the
File name and click the Parameters button. Write ID for the Name and select the
ID field from the rescordset for the Value (by clicking on the lightening
bolt). Save the list page.
Now open the detail page and create a recordset that will be filtered by the
ID (this is the Parameter Name as you set it previously): Filter: ID; = ; URL
parameter; ID (this is in Recordset simple view). After having created the
filtered recordset, drag and drop the desired fields from the Bindings tab:
Name, Email for example. Save the page.
Now go to the list page and press F12 to preview it in the browser. You will
see that clicking on the Details link for a specific user will open the detail
page.
If you want something far more advanced that will allow you to create lists
and forms within 3 minutes even if you have no programming skills, check out

Hope this helps,

Re: Tables in phpmyadmin
Mihaela ,
Thank you thank you and thank you, it has taken me ages to find out this
information and thanks to you I have managed to do it. I have searched the web
for weeks now and have been unable to find out what you just said. So thanks
again and now I will look at the website you suggested to have a look what else
I can learn. Cheers!
