Tagged Text Files not working
Is there a reason that I have to use an exported tagged text file to make another one? In other words, if I try to manually add:
<ASCII-MAC>
<Version:4><FeatureSet:InDesign-Roman><ColorTable:=<Black:COLOR:CMYK:Process:0,0,0 ,1>>
<DefineParaStyle:NormalParagraphStyle=<Nextstyle:N ormalParagraphStyle>>
<ParaStyle:NormalParagraphStyle><cTypeface:Medium> <cLigatures:0><cFont:ITC Zapf Dingbats><cOTFContAlt:0><0x279B><cTypeface:><cLiga tures:><cFont:><cOTFContAlt:>
to a document, it imports just like that, not reading the code as formatting.
Any solutions/reasons it does this?

Re: Tagged Text Files not working
What application do you use to write?
If TextEdit: Are you sure, you save as text only and not as rtf?
If BBedit: what kind of encoding have you set? Compared to an exported tagged text?

Re: Tagged Text Files not working
I've used TextEdit and TextWrangler. TextEdit was definitely plain text but I have not checked the encoding in TextWrangler. That's my next step.
Do you know what the encoding is supposed to be?

Re: Tagged Text Files not working
Dan,
I am not sure about this. In BBedit I need to use "Macintosh" line breaks instead of "Unix" line breaks. Meaning: a line break is x0D instead of x0A.
I just did some tests and was not able to convince TextEdit to use any other line break than x0A, no matter what encoding I chose.
Did you have any success with TextWrangler?

Re: Tagged Text Files not working
We use TextWrangler, but have found that we have to paste in the <ASCII-MAC> line at the top - just typing it in doesn't seem to work for some reason, no matter how meticulously done. So we have that line saved in TextWrangler with "Save as Stationery" checked, so it works like a template. Paste it into the beginning of each file and everything else runs quite smoothly. We just completed a 608-pg book containing more than 50,000 listings, every word imported as tagged text and "wrangled."
