Do you have the same problem with files in a local site (really local to
your CPU)?

Yeah, I did a few searches and found many others complaining about this. I am shocked that Macromedia hasn't bothered to come out with a patch to fix this. It seems like DW MX is anything but a professional program. It's like it's geared more towards people who just do this for their personal pages and not for a corporate environment running a network.
It's just a real pain to have to have everyone working on a site to have a local copy of files which are never going to be the same with each person making changes to it all the time.
No, just when working off the network drive. Unfortunately, this is not an option. I guess I'm going to have to look into using another application since DW only works off local drives.>>Do you have the same problem with files in a local site (really local to your CPU)?

Like many things these days, they don't consider it a bug. Rather, it's
simply unsupported functionality.
We had a simply Appletalk over TCIP/IP network and was stunned at the
inability of DW to handle it. Photoshop can, why can't a simple text editor
do OK with it? Who knows.
The solution, which was a pain, was to set up two site definitions. One used
the LAN server as the REMOTE and local HDs as the LOCAL. The other used the
LAN server as the LOCAL and the WEB SERVER as the REMOTE. So, you'd use one
to edit, and the other to upload. Yes. A pain.

Re: Taking FOREVER to save a file
two things-
if you want to continue using a network drive- check the way you are
mounting/connecting to it.
check this technote:
http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/mndaslrf.htm
Also- see if any anti-virus software is scanning incoming/outgoing files for
those folders, on your machine or the network drive.
Second- when people in group work setups keep local files on their HD- what
they normally do is define a local site to within their workstation, and the
"remote" as the network drive. With checkin/checkout enabled.
Checkin/checkout prevents overwrites or collisions (for those using
Dreamweaver- it uses .LCK lockfiles to control this. Other editing
applications probably will ignore the .LCK files)
then create a new site defintion (for final publishing, not working) that
has the local site defined as the network drive- and the remote as the real
remote site.

Re: Taking FOREVER to save a file
Don't know all the ins and outs of why it can work for some and not others-
but unlike most other applications, dreamweaver doesn't open and work with
just one file at a time-- such as an image opened in Photoshop.
It does site management functions- and a lot of folder scanning while in
use. It's also constantly calculating relative paths of files to make/manage
links.
--> Photoshop can, why can't a simple text editor
