Template Error
Hi
I am converting a webpage to a Template and I get the following error
message:
There is an error at line 29 of "E:\..."" : Unbalanced body tag
(I left out the entire path cuz it's too long.)
What happens here?
--
Good luck!

Re: Template Error
Hi, thanks. I just fixed the error. There were no closing </body> and
</html> tags included at the end of the page. Dreamweaver refused to
generate a webpage from the Template I had created from the file without
the closing tags. What a great app it is!

Yes it makes sense Murray. The reason I did not immidiately understand

Re: Template Error
Stéphane Bergeron supplied me with a book title that I think I am going
to order anytime soon now. I NEED to get to terms with HTML sooner or
later.
Today I had this problem with CSS again. Specified my entire site nicely
and ALL in CSS. Only for this table I had not specified the alignment of
the table, yet it centered on its own. Setting the table manually in
Dreamweaver wouldn't help.
Had I known HTML and CSS I would have probably fixed the problem.

Re: Template Error
Actually, that can't be the solution. I have the same issue with DW on a site
that has absolutely NO SWF files. This didn't happen until this morning. It
happens when I try to update any of my templates, regardless of the change
being made. I'm running DW 7.0.1 on an XP Pro machine with a 3.2 P4 and 1 GB
of RAM.

Re: Template Error
Did you try any of the other suggestions in this thread, like recreating the
site cache, or even deleting and then redefining the site?

Re: Template Error
I've got the same problem since today on as far as i know only one file.
- Window XP SP2 Dutch
- Dreamweaver MX 7.0.2 trial
The only thing I know I did is moving some large files from the root to a
subdir, but as i read this thread, i moved this subdir outside the site,
because it was maybe the problem.
Other things i tried:
- Removed all _notes dirs
- Removed the _mmServerScripts dir
- Removed all files ending on .LCK
- Removed the site and recreated it
- Removed site cache from:
"Documents and Settings\<your_username>\Application
Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX 2004\Configuration\SiteCache"
- Removed the Configuration dir, located one map above SiteCache
- Reintalled Dreamweaver MX 7.0.1 (with removing all config files as uninstall
option)
That also did not help.
Then i tried to save it another way, instead of just CTRL+S i made my changes
to the file and did "Check In" it asked me if i wanted to save the file before
putting it on the RDS, i answerd yes and Dreamweaver crashed with:
AppName: dreamweaver.exe AppVer: 7.0.1.2181 ModName: mmcl70u.dll
ModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset: 00059cdd
Then i thought i would do this workaround.
- Copy the contents of file.cfm to file2.cfm and save that file.
file2.cfm was saved correct.
- i deleted file.cfm and renamed file2.cfm to file.cfm
the problem is back again.
- Renamed file.cfm back to file2.cfm, edited some things saved it without any
problems.
- Renamed file2.cfm back to file.cfm opened it, and the changes where not
there anymore.
I quess it opended my local copy instead of the remote one, because i renamed.
This is the last thing i tried, quess it's time to look for another editior :/

Re: Template Error
Hey... those of you who read the forum know I have been working with templates
and have been trying to get around some unrelated problems. Once in a while..
a page instantiated from a template will become jumbled, perhaps thru something
I have done, or maybe a bug in DW (or I know sometimes Visual Studio rearranges
code). When all else fails, try to find the offending page, open it, detach
the template, remove the banner regions or whatever the template introduced and
reapply the template to the page. Then try to push the template change again
from the template itself by dirtying the page in some way (spacebar works fine)
and hitting save. Hope this helps.. I know just one broken page can prevent
the template from successfully updating the other pages based on that template.

Re: Template Error
Oddly enough, I tried clearing caching and quite a few other things.
Eventually, I uninstalled DW and reinstalled it (with full reboots in between).
This has cleared up the problem at the moment. I realize that other have tried
this and it hasn't worked, but hopefully, this will clear it up for good.

Re: Template Error
I just posted a new post about this. Same problem (line 75). I'm using
Dreamweaver MX 2004 7.0.1, WinXP on three different machines (never at the same
time). The problem only occurs on my laptop. I connect to an Apache 2.x/
Coldfusion MX server via RDS. It occurs when I try to save a file, be it with
automatic upload on or off. I have no swf files, etc...just cfm files. Has
anyone sent in a ticket to Macromedia concerning this?

I'm having this saving problem and I've started a new job and I need to get
some work done and I can't save any files. This is absolutely rediculous!
Macromedia can't produce a product that will allow you to save files after
making edits to them? This needs to be fixed ASAP! Is there anyone at
Macromedia that reads these dam foums. I mean, come on. This shouldn't be
happening.

Or you can't manually save it (File > save) into your desktop?
FTP connectivity can vary depending on your anti-virus, desktop setup,
server setup, and parameters.

Re: Template Error
Has anyone looked at the datestamps of the files? I just downloaded a new site
that I'm working on from the production server, and when the files landed
locally, the date/timestamps were all messed up. I couldn't save changes to the
local files without getting the error. Re-downloading the files (this time
saving with proper date/timestamps) seems to have fixed the problem.

template error
"contribute is unable to create a new page because it contains an error" -
error received when trying to add a new page with by selecting a template.
A template that had been working is now not. I have scanned for bad code,
improperly nested areas, mixed template tag versions, etc... no luck. Any
Ideas?
I have also removed each editable area one at a time and tried to add them
back one at a time. Really frustrated now - with very little on the web
regarding the above error
