template problem - Macromedia Dreamweaver

I am having more template problems. All of my pages are updating except for one. I noticed that this same page is letting me edit what should be uneditable regions, too. It was created from the same template as the others. I tried starting again and copying and pasting my page content into the template to recreate the page and I have the same problem. When I preview in the browser, the path to my Template file is being appended to all my link paths. What did I do wrong? Thanks...

I recommend copying all the editable content from the maverick page and
spawning a new page from the template you wish it to be connected to.

Yes it's a pain, but a mild one compared to wracking one's brain asking "why
did that happen?" Just do it and move forward. :)

    Default Template problem

I have had a problem with creating files from templates in *all* my configured sites in DWMX.

When a new page is generated the links are in the form:

    <img src="file:///C|/apache/htdocs/PiaNew/images/logo.gif" width="158" height="84"> which obviously doesn't work.

This first occurred in a new site so I double-checked & tried all the standard template troubleshooting issues without success. Then I checked other sites and the same thing happens with templates which have been working fine:

    <link rel="stylesheet" href="file:///C|/Sites/Oxeye/styles.css" type="text/css">

I'm running Win 2K so tried logging on as a different user, recreating site defs, but still the same problem.

I'm inclined to backup DW config & site defs & reinstall but if the problem is in the defs this won't help.

Please can anyone shed any light on this?!

    Cheers
    simon

I could be way off here but -

my links look the same as your description if I build the page with
images/links, etc. without first saving the page into the site. If I create
a page from a template, immediately save it as the page I want to create,
and then proceed to produce the content, etc., for the page, all the links
created are relative rather than absolute and there are no further problems.

    Hope this helps,

This is exactly right. They all look like this until they're saved.

Thanks Doug & DiMa but this is not the problem here.

I *am* saving pages before adding content + it is the template material which has the bad links.

    Cheers

    hello:

As they have said, the only way to get those links is to make one of the
    following errors -

    1. Evaluate the link before the file has been saved, or
    2. Insert material from outside your site and then refuse the prompt to
copy the inserted material within the site, or
    3. Save a page outside your current site

As far as I know, there are no other ways to get this....

    Hi Murray
As I hoped I had made clear, none of these errors applies.

The problem is with *all* my templates (well I have at least 30 so I haven't checked every one, just a sample) including ones that I have been using regularly for months with no problems.

That's why I suspected some kind of DW internal corruption but am reluctant to go through all the hassle of a reinstall if I can avoid it.

    Back to you :0)

    simon:

Well, we are at an impasse then. Do this please.

    1. Create a new page in that site using FILE | New.
    2. Add a link to the page.
    3. Save the page.

Do you have the file:/// link? If you do not, then there is not an internal
    corruption.

The solution is to go through your templates, and remake each link before
saving the page. When you do this, make sure that you do not make any of
    the errors previously mentioned.

Why do you have 30 templates in a site? That's way too many in my
judgement, and sorta defeats the purpose of using templates.
