Templates in DW8
Hi -
I have used DW for some time now. Not advanced use but always happy with the
results.
I've upgraded to DW8 and have encountered two seemingly related problems.
One is an error about translators that 'cannot be loaded' which appears
whenever I change anything on a page. The other is that NONE of the templates
show up in design view. (So there is basically nothing to see or work with in
the design pane :-()
I see a pale yellow outline that denotes template:main, HOWEVER none of the
visual elements are seen.
PLEASE tell me what I need to tweak, upgrade, download, patch, fix so that I
can get back to updating pages.
THANKS in advance.

Both of these indicate bad things. The former suggests that your> whenever I change anything on a page. The other is that NONE of the

installation is damaged and the latter indicates that your template code is
corrupted.
How many extensions do you have installed? And can you show me the code on
your template page, please?

Re: Templates in DW8
No extra extensions that I know of. I just upgraded and have been cancelling
past the 'translator' issue. It refers to ASP.htm and ASP.net not loading.
Template code is too big for this forum. How should I send to you?
THANK YOU!

Upload it to some web space and post a link to it.
With regard to your other problem, you can try this simple fix -
Quit DW.
Find this folder -
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration
(these folders are normally hidden - you may have to use Explorer > Tools >
Folder Options to unhide them)
and delete it.
Restart DW. Works better?

Re: Templates in DW8
Working in OS 10.4.5 found and deleted 'configuration' file.
New and uglier notice pops up now citing javascript errors, many expletive
type characters, a SyntaxError: illegal character and the same "ASP.NET.htm"
has configuration information that is invalid.
Mostly makes me feel like an invalid. Maybe I should head back to MX and
actually make some page updates...
Other thoughts?

Re: Templates in DW8
I fear you deleted the wrong Configuration file. There should be two - one
under the application and one under the user.

Re: Templates in DW8
Deleted the \<username>\Application Support\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration file twice just to jigger it.
Nonesuch exists at HardDrive\Library\Application
Support\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
8\Configuration. NO Dreamweaver 8 file at all.

Templates are showing up.
Still getting the translators notice. It show up everytime I select a page or template to open, everytime a change is saved pretty much whenever I *do* anything.

Re: Templates in DW8
Would really like any insight you can offer about the invalid translator
message.
Is it unusual that there is no Dreamwaever 8 file in the Application Support?
Thank you again for the assist.

Re: Templates in DW8
Yes -
Searched on parts of the message and what I felt were its key words. I have not been able to find reference to the message in the KB or in the fora.
Other resources are welcomed, thanks.

Re: Templates in DW8
Alrighty then - reading between the lines of Murray's first response helped!
I've uninstalled the app and all its bits. Upon reinstall the error about
ASP.NET and ASPhtm tranlators being invalid has GONE.
SO - if you have this problem> read about how to uninstall DW8, uninstalll
adn then re-install the booger. Works all nice again now. :-)
THANKS< >Murray!
