text area resizing stretches inherent text
when i want to resize a text area the text in it stretches depending to the size. the result is ugly warped text (they are horizontally/vertically distorted).
strangely enough, when i produce a new text area in the same illustrator document, the resizing of the containing text does not appear instead the text is fitting in the provided area size. as a drawback, when i want to resize the text area using the transform tool, the unwanted warping of text happens again. as i would like to have coordinates without commas (w: 23 mm instead of w: 23,4545 mm) for easily calculating the measurements of my layout, this is extremely annoying.
does anybody have an idea how to fix the problem?
am using illustrator CS on win xp prof.
kind regards

Re: text area resizing stretches inherent text
Tomasio,
Object>Transform>Scale only works with integer %, as you know, so that will not help you.
Transform stretches, so you have to stretch proportionately.
Transform palette solution:
If you want a specific width, for instance 23 instead of 23,4545, you may start by multiplying the height with 23 (add *23 in the H box) followed by dividing the height with 23,4545 (/23,4545); press Enter after each change. After that you may change the W value to 23, and the proportions match; in this order you do not forget the original W value.
Empty box solution:
You may add a slightly larger no fill no stroke rectangle with the desired width, such as 24 > 23,4545, and a suitable height, place it with the same centre and group.
