Text box resizing - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I've created a text box by selecting the type tool and then entering text. I'm trying to reshape the text box so that the text will re-flow, without changing the shape or size of the text. however, whenever I grab one of the handles and change the text box, the text resizes. thanks doug...

    Basem,

My guess is that you haven't created a text box.

After selecting the type tool, what did you do? Did you merely click then begin typing? If so, you're working with point type, which will behave as you describe. The box with handles is the bounding box, not a text box.

To create a text box, click-drag with the text tool.

If you create area type is there any way to change the size and kerning of the text block by just manipulating the selection points of the block of text (corner points of the text block)?? Or is this only a point type feature?

    Jane 230 Smith,

If your question is taken very literally, then Jacob is right, because the "selection points of the block of text" are controls which are displayed by the Bounding Box plugin when View>Show Bounding Box is enabled and the current tool is the black arrow Select tool.

However, if your question is taken in terms of meeting a goal, Stephen is right. The Free Transform Tool displays a control box which looks exactly like the Bounding Box controls do, and behaves very similarly except that it makes no exception for area text like the Bounding Box controls do, instead always scaling the entire selection. (On non-text selections it can also do perspective distortions, which the Select tool's Bounding Box cannot.)

You can also scale text objects using the regular Scale tool, and the entire contents will be scaled. But the Scale tool uses a metaphor of clicking anywhere to set the pin point, and then dragging from anywhere to anywhere else to perform the scale, rather than using a specialized corner controls.
