Text Cursor Problem
I have seen this problem in Freehand 9 & 10 on multiple PCs. You try to
click the cursor in the middle of the page but it jumps to the top of the
page when you click. Or you use your arrow keys to move the cursor up a few
lines and it jumps to the top of the column. Has anyone else dealt with this
and found a cause or a solution?

Text cursor problem
Has anyone figured out how to get the text cursor to be visible in a text box in Illustrator CS?
I did a search in the forum archives and it sounds like it is either a bug in Illustrator (and or Panther?).
Thanks!

Re: Text cursor problem
What problem are you having? My text cursor displays fine with text in both rectangle- and text box mode.

Re: Text cursor problem
When I place the text cursor inside the text box, I do not see the "blinking text cursor." It is as if I didn't click inside the text box. The only way I know that it is inside the text box is when I highlight any letters.

Re: Text cursor problem
If you have left or right justify selected, the cursor will jump to the appropriate edge of the text box. If you have center justify selected, it will be at the top center of the box. A text box is just that. The outer limits of the text and thats where the text will start.

Re: Text cursor problem
The problem is not where the cursor is positioned. When I select the text tool from the tool palette it becomes "invisible." I do not get the "eye beam" cursor nor a blinking vertical line. I can blindedly click inside a text box and awkwardly edit and highlight text (after a few tries). When I switch to any other tool I can see the cursor fine.

Re: Text cursor problem
Carlton-
You're not crazy. I have the same problem. I just assumed it was some oddity in AI CS. That's not the only type problem I have in AI CS. In addition, some fonts display incorrect characters in AI CS (ie- in one font, the number 6 appears as a question mark ?). Also, after I have formatted text, when I go back to it later and select it to change some of its formatting, the character window will show the default text settings; not the font, size, leading, tracking, etc I specified. However, the info window will show the font & size correctly. Has anyone else had these problems??? Any suggestions?

Re: Text cursor problem
Not answering to you Pam, but I am fearing that the Mac isn't going to serve like it used to. I think it's integrated Windows and Unix altogether, and we can expect alot of changes in our usual workflows.
Although I do not like the sounds of OSX, as it seems quite a jump from the usual Mac OS, it seems that we will eventually all have to deal with it. Or go to PC. Which I think is getting more stable all the time. (But I hate it)
So, what do we do about it? I personally thank the Heavens for this forum. It will give you all answers...usually. And in a timely manor. I have been on other sites and don't get an answer in a week.
So keep trying, someone knows the answer here... somewhere... somehow... or was it the other way around (probably to young to remember that song)!
Enough ranting, I also get weird character also from transfering PC to Mac. The Character keys are not the same, giving a weird character instead. You have to manually replace it with your own charater key.
For example, an Arial registration mark looks O.K. on screen, but prints out weird. You would have to outline it to print.

Re: Text cursor problem
Yes, I agree. The Mac OS isn't quite the same any more. It is evolving more and more toward Unix. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I do wish the software vendors would spend more time testing for bugs before releasing updates that we all end up eventually having to run. The Open Type environment and the new text engine in Illustrator sound great, but it sure does have its quirks. If Adobe thinks that we can all afford to convert our entire type libraries to Open Type, they've been smoking something. Anyway, I keep one system running OS 9 and run all my "Classic" apps on it just to keep things clean. Luckily I am equipped to do so. In the mean time I try to figure out these oddities so that I can trudge through the Panther/CS combination.
Interestingly enough, the type I was having trouble with was never on a PC. It was all set in Word or directly in Illustrator on a Mac!
Thanks.

Re: Text cursor problem
Pam, I am having the same "question mark" issue. Right now in Avenir, another person has spaces show as "?"
Have you got any info on a fix as of yet.
Much appreciated
