Default Text does not show up when a CS2 4.0 .inx doc is opened in CS

I had made a book spread for a client in CS2 and packaged the design with fonts and links and everything and uploaded to client's server with no stuffitt (took a while) and she is able to open inx file in CS but unable to see the font at all. Is there a reason for this?

So you've sent her your fonts? Does she have a license to use them?

Does she know how to install them?

Did you use any CS2 features that aren't available in CS?

She contracted this job out to me and gave me fonts and template to work with, all I did was throw the fonts in my library> fonts folder and placed the text , formatted it and saved. Everything on my end looks good but on her end it disappears. When I save as INX I do get a little restriction about font rights but I never paid attention to it. I assumed since she has it she will be able to open it.

So you're the one with the pirated fonts.

You don't "Save as INX" you export. The fonts message happens when you Package. If that's what you did, then you didn't send INX, you sent a package that can't be opened with CS. You need to export as InDesign Interchange format.

And your client needs to be using the April 2005 version of InDesign CS, build number 838.

Sorry, I should have been clearer, First I packaged the file .indd and than I exported it as INX, ( I gave them both) she says she has the patch/update installed. What is the built number 838?

OK, if she was able to open the file, she has the right build number.

What does "Unable to see the font at all" mean?

Can't see the font in the Font/menu or Character palette, etc.?

Can't see text that uses the font?

This is what she told me:
"The text in the file is not showing up. I am able to open the .inx
and all the pages are there, but the text beginning
with chapter 1 is complete gone."

Its text thats gone not just font.

Was it, however linked to the InDesign document? Have a look in the Links palette. If your Word document is in the list, then you will either need to provide it to the other user, or "Embed" the link (using the Links palette flyout menu), and re-export as .inx.

Not true, IME. The text will just show as a missing link but like a
preview image will still be there.

When I flowed the text I went through the PLACE command, and located the document on the desktop, the text apeared on the first page and I threaded throughout the book, the document however (.doc) is not linked to the .indd file (it does not show up in the links palette)
Is there a way to link it without having to reflow the document?

And if not, how to embedd the text?- is embedding like turning it to outlines and the text will not be editable afterwards?

Also another question, can I link text from one indd file to another indd file?

If it's not in the links palette don't worry about it. Linking is a user
preference for text and spreadsheet files and is turned off by default.
