Text flows back into the master page
Hello,
I am learning InDesign and I have a basic question I would like to ask about flowing text.
I am using InDesign CS2. My document which I have been editing over the past several days exhibits a very strange behaviour. I am sure I must be doing something wrong - the result was very unexpected.
Text is now starting to flow from the end of my document pages back into my master page. Is this normal or is there a bug in the program?
My document is about 60 pages and it uses one master page called "A-Master". This master page has a master text frame - a page-sized text frame.
On the second-to-last page, when I clicked on a text frame "out port" to load the next amount of text and then go to the last page (which is empty) and position the loaded cursor over the last page's master text frame, the cursor turns into a chain-link icon. Then I clicked to drop the text. The result is that instead of the text loading into the master frame on this last document page, the text is put into the actual master page (A-Master) and therefore appears on every page of the document.
Is this supposed to happen?
I know one solution that seems to work and that is just before I drop the text, you can hold down the shift key and then instead of the cursor turning into a chain-link icon it looks like a bent arrow (the automatic page adding icon). Then when you click to drop the text, it correctly drops the text into your document page and adds new pages as required.
And so I know this solution works. However I am still posting this question because it seems very strange that InDesign would allow someone to easily make this mistake and continue threaded text back into a master page. If this is a feature of InDesign how can it be useful? Why would someone want text flowing from the document back into a Master Page? Is it a bug in the program?
Have others experienced this as well?
Thank you for any comments,
PS I first thought this issue might be related to the shift-command click feature that is used to override master items on document page. I experimented with this feature for a while but that didn't seem to be the cause.

Re: Text flows back into the master page
Update to InDesign 4.0.4. I believe it fixed that problem.

Re: Text flows back into the master page
I have 4.0.4 installed and have a similar problem to the one rainbow describes above. I'm also fairly new to InDesign.
Text that should flow through existing pages is starting over in the footnotes section on page one. I don't know why this is happening or how to fix it. I'm linked to an MSWordX document with footnotes. The document looks fine in Word.
Any ideas?

I think you're right, Steve, but AFAIK, documents that are already messed up in this way do not get "fixed" simply by opening them in 4.0.4.
