    Default Text Frame Options

Two issues: Why is it that when I convert a text box to a circle, I can no longer vertically (or any other alignment) center the text in the circle?

Also, when a "text wrap" is applied to a box/circle next to a box with center alignment, the vertical alignment box is grayed out. The same thing happens if I apply a complex path to the rectangular text box.

Is there a way around this or does Adobe need to add this feature?

    Thanks!

    1. Set the inset to a size the will give you a rectangular text frame
that will fit your text within the circle.

    2. That's the way it is, AFAIK.

My sense is that this feature will never be added. The strain it places on the text composer to always come up with the same answer in situations where the odd shape introduces too many imponderables is likely to keep this on the wishlist for quite a while.

Anything other than top-alignment requires a perfectly rectangular text area. (Although it does appear that you can skew a frame without losing this feature.)

Oh, never mind. I see the question is about justification, not alignment.

    From InDesign help:

Vertical justification isn’t applied to text that takes on a non-rectangular
shape due to influences such as text frame shape, text wrap, or corner
effects. In these cases, top alignment is applied. When a corner effect
is applied, vertical justification is possible if you make the text area
rectangular by increasing the Inset value in the Text Frame Options dialog
box, relative to the Size value in the Corner Effects dialog box.

Sounds like Dave is right, they thought of it, and found it was to troublsome to program.
