Text is blury when printing

Another newbie question:

I created a brochure with text(Helvetica). Fairly plain black on white text. Printing on a home printer HP932c. Why does text look like it has been duplicated and blurred - almost looks like a added a shadow? This is only happening with black text on white background. The final product will be printed at pro printer but wanted to proof it at home first.

Have you updated the print drivers lately, and are you running Illustrator with the latest patches? What does text from Word look like?

And remember that a printer driver may work fine for one program (such as WORD), yet be incompatible with another (new Illustrator version), so you always want to check for new drivers when you upgrade or install new programs, particularly when they are graphic oriented.

Is text the only thing in the document? Are there any other objects in the pamphlet, particularly objects with drop shadows or transparency applied to them?

Depending on your settings and preferences, text that interacts with transparency can sometimes end up looking jagged and rasterized.
