Text placing
InDesign, placing individual text 'stories" to add to newsletter. In PageMaker I could select 'place text', click on any file and get a list of all separate stories ikn that file. I could then select the story I wanted and import it into the newsletter I was working on.
Am I right in thinking this facility is not available in InDesign (I can import pix but ID newsletter pages containing text remain greyed-out)? If so, is there any add-on that can provide it?

Re: Text placing
You can also drag and drop a number of text files or images onto a page in ID all at once.

Re: Text placing
Thanks. Back to the old cut from one file and paste to another then! That's progress?

Re: Text placing
The only reason that PageMaker allowed placing of PageMaker documents was that until version 4 (I think -- might have been 3), PageMaker only allowed you to have one document open at a time.
I'm not saying that it wouldn't be useful to be able to place stories from one InDesign document to another, but if you look at the bigger picture and you had to choose something to leave out among those things that PageMaker does, this wasn't such a dumb choice.

Not necesarrily. You can select everything you need in one document and just drag it over to the other document.
