Default text printing poorly graphics fine, help!

photoshop 7. For a .psd file the graphics print crisp and sharp. Text is a different story. No matter what i do it prints flat and slightly distored. This happens even when I select Anti-alias crisp and my printer is at it's best printing resolution. It is a good printer an HP deskjet 990cse. I'm really stuck, help greatly needed. Thanks

    Greg,

You need high image resolution for crisp text on non-PostScript printers.

In fact, to approach the quality you would achieve from other applications
such as Word, you need an image res that matches your printer res. That
means that to a laser printer you would need 600 or 1200 ppi and for modern
    inkjets around 360 ppi
