Text vs Field for text input - Macromedia Director Basics

I know this is a bit of a back-to-basics question, but it is something I have never really got my head around when to use text and when to use fields. I want to create a movie that has text input - such as enter you name and address. I want the text input to occur over an animated (imaging lingo bitmap member) background. I want to have a 'backdrop' of 50% blend white to appear behind the active text input box. Default Text vs Field for text input

My understanding is that fields are a bit quicker and dirtier... they are not anti-aliased and have less formatting options. Are there other differences. I have noticed that text-highlighting is poor in field cast members (the highlight doesn't 'follow' as you drag over text') - is that a known problem? Or just a quirk of my situation or system?

Also, is there lingo to specify which text or field member is currently selected (regardless of whether it was selected by mouse-click or by tabbing).

    Thanks!

Default Re:Text vs Field for text input

Yeah the Field/Text member issue has been a long standing one.

Fields are junky looking while Text have a litter of display properties.

Fields are what you want to be using though. Setting a Text member to editable causes it to ignore the ink mode of the sprite. ack. A known bug.

Other than using Fields you could use Imaging Lingo to generate a "field'. But that is a lot of work if you have not worked with Imaging Lingo much or at all.
