Text with raster or vector fill?

How do you fill text with a raster image? And, how can you fill text with a vector drawing - where the letter would limit the visibility of the drawing?

Convert your text to path so that it becomes a polygon. Ungroup the letter
then join them. Use can now use "paste- inside" to use the text as a
clipping path for an image or for vector objects or both. The text will no
longer be editableas text though.

Convert the text to paths.
Modify > Join
Fill Color: None
Apply thin stroke in color that will be visible over fill object (raster or
vector) to be used.
Place path text over fill object and position as desired.
Select fill object. Edit > Cut
Select path text. Edit > Paste Inside
Remove stroke on text if desired.
