Check the help files using the search words "attach text path". Fair
warning, FW doesn't support 3d. So you are probably going to have to use
multiple paths to "simulate" it, if you are looking for something like text
    flowing down a helix.

    Cheers,

    Default Text Wrap

Before you start telling me to search the forums, I have. I am not finding what I am looking for.

I placed a vector graphic that I found in an art program (The Bix Box of Art), in Illustrator 10 for Windows. I copied a block of text from my customers web site, pasted it into Notepad and recopied it. I then pasted it into Illustrator.

I now have the text block layer "under" the placed vector graphic, and I'm trying to wrap the text around the outside edge of the image. I select both and go to the Type menu, and click on Wrap. MAKE is always grayed out. Am I missing something?

    Please help.
    Thanks

Both the text and the graphic must be on the SAME layer.
Then click the graphic only, then click Object/Text Wrap

    Karen,

Thanks for responding. I followed your instructions (although I already had them on the same layer), I clicked on the graphic, but there is no Text Wrap under the Object menu. If you meant to say the Type menu, the Wrap/Make option is still grayed out.

Does it matter if I am in CMYK or RGB? I'm in CMYK. AM I supposed to Rasterize, or flatten or something?

    Thanks!

Which version Illustrator? The menus are slightly different. I was referring to CS? I use CMYK. That shouldn't make a difference.

You should not have to rasterize or flatten.

    Is the object grouped?

Do a search in your version of Illustrator of the Help file for "wrap text" and see what comes up.

If all else fails, try drawing a new outline with the pen/pencil tool and use that with the text to text wrap (not selecting the other object).

    Karen,

Thanks! I have Illustrator 10. I was able to do it. I drew a shape of my image and also created a "text block" which I pasted my text into. Earlier I pasted my text just onto the page.

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi Paul,

I believe that you can only wrap text around an Illustrator-drawn object. Placed EPS's and raster artwork requires that you first draw an Illustrator object to form the graphic bourndary for the area around which the text wraps.

This feature was enhanced in Illustrator CS so that you can wrap text around any sort of object, and the command was moved from the Type menu to the Object menu.

    Hope this helps,

    Lance

    Thanks Lance,

I guess through all the trying (and hand drawing the shape) you are correct as well. I was able to do it once I drew the shape.

    Thanks for your help!
