    Default TextTouchup in Acrobat

    Hi

Wonder if anyone can help. I am having problems changing text in Acrobat from the Creative suite.

The original QuarkXpress File has several seperate text boxes of text and when I Distill it and try and change the text in Acrobat it selects all the text boxes and sees it as one text box and not seperate ones. Therefor when I try and change the text in what should be one text box it runs on through all of them.

In the old acrobat 5.0 on system 9 it did see the text boxes as seperate ones!

    Hope I have made sense!!!

Look forward to hearing from anyone who may know what the hell I am on about and a hopefull solution.

    Cheers...Stu

Acrobat isn't intended for doing that kind of editing...only TOUCHUP (one-line) editing. You need to edit the file in XPress.

    Thanks for that

Sorry I should have said, I am on Acrobat 7.0

As for the text boxes, they are only one line text boxes i.e. there are 6 individual text boxes in Quark all with one line of text in. The client wants to be able to select and change these in the PDF file which you used to be able to do. However once in the PDF it selects all 6 text boxes and see's them as one instead of 6 individual ones.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

    Many thanks

There's not much that can be done. Perhaps Pitstop offers more
sophisticated editing, but I am going to say something you don't like:
any workflow which RELIES on being able to edit a PDF is fundamentally
flawed. Editability should be done either using the source
application, or where applicable (which is rarely in pre-press) form
    fields.

Yes - Enfocus Pitstop would perform a better job with these objects.

I agree it should not RELY on it. But from a prepress guy trying to establish an efficient workflow we should demand it. We pull our images out for color correction out of Acrobat 5 all the time, (We know what 6 does with the layering), and we need stronger editing capabilities than the one liner typo fix to save not only our advertiser the hassle but the production time wasted at my newspaper chasing down our customers to fix errors.

I wish Acrobat 6 could edit subsets that we have loaded but just not in the system fonts.

A true PDF workflow. Inhouse workflow between corporate departments is another goal
