The application Excel has unexpectedly quit. - Mac Applications & Software

Excel quits with the subject message every time I launch it. G4/867 (Quicksilver) w 1.5 GB RAM Mac OS X 10.2.6 Office X 10.1.5 I have tried rebooting with CMD-S fsck -y, Diskwarrior 3 rebuild directory, tail (permissions, optimization, cron scripts) etc Everything else is running splendidly. I have essentially the same configuration on my PowerBook G3/400 with no problems at all. Has anyone else seen this problem? Can anyone suggest something else to try? Maretta...

you have the divx codec installed, don't you?

remove the codec from /library/quicktime, launch excel, and disable
'show project gallery at startup' checkbox. then you can put back the
codec and it won't crash on launch, but it will still crash if you pick
the gallery. the rest of excel seems fine with the codec installed
    though.

if this isn't it, then maybe someone else has a suggestion...

I was having the same problem with Word after updating to Office 10.1.5.
I tried all sorts of trashing of prefs, moving files around, etc. I
finally decided a clean reinstall of Office was faster than playing
    around anymore. Works fine now.
