the right way to do it? - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

i was trying the command /usr/sbin/ppd /dev/ttys1 57600 debug connect "/usr/sbin/chat -v " atd3212334 connect "ogin: mylogname asswrd: mypass" however i get option "atd" is not reconized. i seperate the "atd" from the phonenumber. same error. i made "atd" capital and changed to "atdt", same error. so what is the right way to do it ? thanks...

    Default the right way to do it?

    i was trying the command

    commands into minicom and see what works and what doesn't. It's always a
    good idea to manually test the modem's acceptance of the commands.

    Well, I wouldn' write it this way, I would put it in a file and
    call chat with the -f switch
