If you are talking about NT4, it's because it was never designed for multimedia. It will probably be the worst OS for playback.

Some help ideas:

1. Make sure at least SP4 is installed (6 recommended)

2. Make sure the latest WMP and codecs are installed (I think NT can only use up to v6.4)

3. Make sure all the latest drivers are installed for screen and sound ... NT versions of drivers are fairly limited compared to other OS's so the latest are always recommended.

4. You may need to change to a different SoundDevice in Director for NT

5. Make sure the latest DirectX is installed

6. Make sure there is enough RAM ... NT4 needs more RAM to run apps than most other OS.


Try those and see if you get any improvement.
