Default this bright white is killing my eyes - page layout color

This may sound whiny - but any of you guys know if there is a way to change the default background/page color from white (extremely bright) to a gray or less bright color - maybe a pale yellow. Just wondering - I'm an Autocad/ Pro/E user that recently became a Pagemaker 7.0/Indesign CS user and I'm more use to having a less intense workspace to look at all day.

    Thanks guys and gals

Double-click the Paper swatch and change it to whatever you would like.

In addition to Dave's tip, you need to go to enter 'Preview Mode' instead of 'Normal View Mode' at the end of your toolbox to change the pasteboard color from white. Additional 'Preview Mode' color preferences are in 'Edit>Preferences'.

Great advice! Some people get too caught up in their work too often and ignore the importance of this.

If you're using InDesign, you can hit "w" while your arrow tool is selected and it will hid the pasteboard and change the area to gray. Just hit it again to change it back.
