Thumbnails show as gray boxes in Adobe Acrobat after FTPing PDF to server
I have a PDF file that was created in Adobe Acrobat (Windows) 5.0 and it displays fine when I open it from my desktop, but when I FTP the file to the server, the thumbnails display as gray boxes. The funny thing is if I right click on the link and do a "Save Target As" and save the file to my desktop, the thumbnail images display correctly again when opened on my desktop. I have tried renaming the file and FTPing it in different ways and nothing works. I have other PDF files in the exact same format on the website and the thumbnails all display fine for those files. I have had other people try to open this PDF file and it is not my browser settings because they all experience the same problem.
Any ideas??

Did you embed the thumbnails? If you didn't, Acrobat 5 will make them
if shown in the Acrobat window, but not the browser window.

Re: Thumbnails show as gray boxes in Adobe Acrobat after FTPing PDF to server
I am having the same problem with Acrobat 6.0. I have embedded the thumbnails, which display properly when opened from desktop, but when I FTP it to the server, all I get is gray boxes. Is this because I have security settings on the document so that it can't be printed or changed?
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Are you sure you embeded them? This is something you have to do on purpose.

Re: Thumbnails show as gray boxes in Adobe Acrobat after FTPing PDF to server
Yes, I'm sure I have embedded them. I clicked on "Embed all page thumbnails" and saved it. But, they still show up as gray boxes after I FTP them. Any other ideas? Do you think it is because I do not allow printing or have other security settings?

Did you make sure to upload the PDFs in binary mode (as opposed to ASCII/text?)

Re: Thumbnails show as gray boxes in Adobe Acrobat after FTPing PDF to server
Re the latest post....
Yes. All uploads that we do are bianary by default.
And still Grey thumbnails...
I Downloaded Acrobat 6.0... and then removed 5.0... and the pdf that I want to view on the site brahmsmount.com home page will NOT load.....
When I download the Free reader... it arrives as 5.0 and that gives a pdf without thumbnails...
What's that about ?
