Ti Book problem
Was updating from 9.1 to 9.2 on my Tibook. It had about 2 minutes to go
when it hung up. After 16 minutes and no change, I restarted. I get a
picture of a folder with a question mark that alternates with a folder
with a Mac icon. Inserting a system 9 CD or Norton Utilities CD does not
work. Holding down C and restarting with either CD does nothing either.
Zapping the pram doesn't help. Thought about taking the drive out and
putting it in a firewire enclosure and adding the system from my desktop
but the pins don't match. Doesn't recognize a firewire disk if I try to
boot from that.
Any suggestions? Of course, I'd like save some of the data.

firewire target disk mode on it by holding down the "T" key.

the Mac OS (System) is corrupt. (Not surprising since the
installation hung) The boot process finds a blessed system folder,
the boot fails, so it starts over. Sometimes the boot
process gets far enough that it won't look for other devices.
If you can put the disk in a firewire enclosure, I would try
1) putting the disk in the firewire case, booting the machine,
sans HD, from the installation CD and then attaching firewire disk.
2) find a working machine and attach the firewire case to that.
3) find a working machine and start yout 'book target disk mode
by holding down the "T" key.
THEN REMOVE System and Finder from "System Folder"!
Run Norton on the firewire disk.
Rename "System Folder" to "oldsystem" (or something else)
Then (clean) install an operating system.
After the machine boots, you can try and salvage whatever you
want from "oldsystem". However, I wouldn't be to eager. The
upgrade could have been interupted by gremlins, a cosmic ray,
or bad memory, but there is also a high probability that there
are more corrupt files in the system folder. You put those turkey
in the working system and "instant failure"
