Default tick marks on category axis

    Hello,

I'm working on a book with lots of graphs and sometimes, or most of the times, there is an annoying thing about it. When I have too much data on the category axis and I only want tick marks on some of them, I have to delete the ones I don't want manually.
For example, if I have data for the years 1980 til 2004, and I just want tick marks for intermediate years (like 1980, 1985, 1990,...) I have to delete them myself.
Is there an automatic way to do this?

How are you creating them and what version AI are you using? You might get more responses if you explain a bit more.

Alexandra, it appears you can only specify these settings on the Value Axis, not the Category axis. There you can specify the minimum and maximum values as well as how many tick marks you want in between those two. For the Category axis, you can specify how many tick marks you want (divisions) but you can't specify a minimum or maximum value.

But for what I understand by Mordy's answer, I just have to keep on deleting the tick marks myself.

That's always been my experience, but I'm always learning new things here. Maybe the answer is out there.

If there are a lot of graphs which are identical except for the data, the low-tech solution would be to create a "template" from one of your graphs, containing just the tick marks you want (and with the rest of the graph info removed). Then delete the axis lines (or move them to an invisible layer) from each new graph, and replace with your template.
