    Default Timeout -- [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server d

    We are experiencing errors like the following
    approximately 50 times per day appearing in our logs.
    [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not
    exist or access denied

    We are currently running Windows 2000 Server SP3+, SQL 2K
    SP3, MDAC 2.71, .NET Framework 1.0 SP2. We run the IIS 5.0
    machine separate from the SQL 2K machine.

    The website runs, but it does spit up these error
    messages: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL
    Server does not exist or access denied throughout the day
    for our users. We are able to ping, run SQL Analyzer and
    all appears good -- just get these sporatic errors. We are
    running with OLEDB, and use the IP ADDRESS, port specified
    in our Global.asa files and web.config files. We are
    specifying the DBMSSOCN. Again -- the web server connects
    but it appears to spit up these errors and then recover.
    We were running without issue on NT4 and SQL 7 and have
    recently migrated to new machines and have these issues.
    The machines are dual-processor, 2GB RAM, Dell's. We have
    had absolutely no trouble connecting with SEM and Query
    Tool remotely. We would like to avoid using ODBC or a DSN.
    Please help.
    We have identified several kB's and have disabled one of
    the network cards (there are 2 in each machine). We have
    created a local HOSTS file and put the ip to host mapping
    to avoid dns lookups. Why do we have this intermittent
    behavior?

    You should probably ask this over at microsoft.public.sqlserver.server

    I experienced this too except I narrowed it down to certain pages. I
    restarted IIS and SQL but it didn't help. I ended up reinstalled SQL which
    fixed the problem.

    I used SQL and IIS on the same computer so I took the network card out of
    the equation.

    I also noticed this started after I installed the .net framework.
