To All Macintosh Users: IE Mac or Safari or Firefox?
To all Mac users:
Which browser are you using?
IE Mac 5.23
Safari
Firefox
Is anyone still using IE Mac 5.23 considering the Microsoft discontinued
support for it over a year ago?
AND do you use IE Mac just to test on for some odd reason?
And how about people you know who are on a Mac? What browser do you know,
if you know, that they are using on their Macs?
These questions are specifically regarding Mac browsers as its a mightmare
to develope for IE Mac 5.23 considering there are so many bugs, not to
mention its not supported anymore.
Thanks

Ive got all open at the same time and it just depends what one I happen
to click on as to which I use. It's just a means of surfing the net, I
have no particular favorites. Having this stance allows me to have a
balanced viewpoint as I think its still paramount that you do design for
Mac IE5.2 at the moment, as I think you should cater for Opera too (but
that's just my opinion).

the less browsers one needs to consider the better but whilst they still
have life in them its my opinion you should design for them. Mind you
having said that I dropped my support for NN4x some time ago so make of
that what you will. I still think MacIE5x is classed as a 'modern' browser.

have that many good browser options. IE5.1 remains their browser of
preference.

trying to do but in my experience Mac IE5.2 is more than efficient to be
able to render a great looking site using css-p, without any hacks involved.
Its certainly no worse than either IE5x or 6 on the PC, which have
similar minor issues. Infact those two are the browsers which I find a
particular pain in the arse, not particularly Mac IE5x, although you do
hahve to treat it nicely by giving it css that it likes.

with IE5 I have to make sure my sites work on IE/Mac. These Macs aren't
powerful enough to have OS X installed, so I will be designing for
IE/Mac for a long time to come.

lying around to test on PC browsers, but you're right. Especially when it
comes to CSS rendering. The last Mac version of IE is a strain to work with
at best. Doctype declarations change the way things render as well.
Haven't tried Firefox yet. Might have to do that.

I use all the ones mentioned so far.
As for myself, I use Safari as my main browsing one on OSX 10.3.8
because I sync with .mac so that all my computers have the same list of
favorites.
Most of my Mac clients use Safari as their browser of choice. Two of
them use Netscape, but the most recent version.

Re: To All Macintosh Users: IE Mac or Safari or Firefox?
Mac users who have upgraded to OSX generally use Safari, since it is the
default (and best) browser for OSX.
Mac users who have not upgraded to OS9 generally use IE5.
Mac users who have not upgraded to OSX have no money or no concern about
keeping their machines and their workflow up to date.
BTW, as a response to Steve's remark: "These Macs aren't powerful enough
to have OS X installed"
OSX, up to 10.2.8 can be installed on a 4 years old 300MHZ iMac with no
problem, so I wonder what kind of Macs he might be talking about?
