To upgrade or not?
Possible stupid question alert!!
A client wants a page added onto his website that he can edit. I can do this
with contribute, thats not a problem, but we'll need to buy them the latest
version of Contribute which is CS3.
We have version 3 in the office. Does anyone know if this will be compatible?
Or will we have to upgrade our copy first?
Cheers

Re: To upgrade or not?
Problem with this situation is that when you administer a site in CS3 you
cannot administer the site in C3 anymore...
Beste way is to get yourselve a CS3 license/upgrade and transfer a C3 license
to your client or get him CS3 to.

So to be totally pedantic, does this mean that Contribute CS3 is NOT
COMPATIBLE with previous versions, and templates created in previous versions
of DW won't be able to be edited with CS3?
I'm using Studio 8 DW and just starting on the whole template thing, so it's a
new world for me.

Re: To upgrade or not?
Administering can't be done in previous version, once the site is administered
by CS3. But the users permissions remains the same. That is users who have to
permission to use DW template, can still continue using it.

Re: To upgrade or not?
Thanks for your reply Dominic, but I'm totally confused now (sorry)
If I create a DW Studio 8 template does this mean the customer can use lower
versions of Contribute (3,2,1) to make his web site content changes?
If yes, can I still administer the template in DW 8 if the customer is using a
higher version than DW 8/ Contribute 3 version e.g. CS3?
Otr will I *have* to upgrade to the latest DW version to ensure all templates
created with previous versions are OK for me to administer regardless of the
version of Contribute the customer uses to make changes to the web site content?
Thanks in advance for your patience and advice.
Cheers

Ans: YES

Ans: If you Administered the website using CS3 once, then that site can't be
administered by lower version of Contribute. But you can do the required
operation on the template in DW 8, regardless of the DW\Contribute version the
customer uses.
Otr will I *have* to upgrade to the latest DW version to ensure all templates
created with previous versions are OK for me to administer regardless of the
version of Contribute the customer uses to make changes to the web site content?
Ans: For making changes in the website content, customers can have any version
of contribute. The only thing is, if the site is administered by Contribute
CS3, then the same site con;t be administered again by lower version of
Contribute.
