TOC character limit, glitch?
In creating a table of contents in InDesignCS, it seems to cut entries off at 256 characters. I NEED all of those characters. Is there a setting somewhere that controls this? I've looked in all of the help files and forums and can't find any mention of this.
thanks for any help!

Re: TOC character limit, glitch?
Put a check mark on "Balance Ragged Lines" in the Paragraph Style Options for the style you are using for those table of contents entries.
If you do this, it should continue on to the next line instead of cutting off.

Re: TOC character limit, glitch?
I tried this and it didn't really help. What's happening is I'll have a paragraph that is a figure caption. I'm making a List of Figures that grabs the captions. When it grabs a caption, it only grabs the first 256 characters of that caption. I'm worried that this is just a function of InDesign.

Re: TOC character limit, glitch?
Perhaps InDesign is in fact limited to 256 characters. I don't see why it would be but I would call technical support to find out if this is a fact or not.

Re: TOC character limit, glitch?
Real World InDesign CS confirms the limitation. From page 534:
"Note that InDesign captures only the first 255 characters of each paragraph when it builds a table of contents, something you should keep in mind as you think of uses for this feature...."
