TOC or Index via Character Styles
Hello and thanks for reading.
I am currently working on a booklet for the a non-profit organization. I have a HUGE MSWord document with almost 2,000 charity organizations listed. I have done all the layout and am now trying to make a TOC or Index for the front of the booklet. I am trying to use CHARACTER STYLES as my source instead of PARAGRAPH STYLES. However, I cannot seem to find a way to do it. Here is a sample of what i am trying to achieve:
==========
Sample Source Text:
Code Organization
0300 Global Impact 800-638-8079 www.charity.org EIN#52-1273585 - Your support helps provide disaster relief and brings education, health care and economic opportunities to the poorest people on earth through programs that promote self-sufficiency. 12.2%
0301 ACCION International 800-638-8079 www.accion.org EIN#13-2535763 - We give poor people the tools they need to work their way out of poverty by providing “micro” loans to start their own businesses. 15.0%
==========
I have the code and Name of the Charity set as a Character style where the text is Bold...the rest of the paragraph is normal.
Needed Result:
CODE____ORGANIZATION___________PAGE
0301 ACCION International 1
0300 Global Impact 1
Does anyone have a clue as to how to achieve this other than making the code and org name its own Paragraph with Paragaph Styles? Can it be done in InDesign, a plugin, or script? Please email me at av_multimedia@comcast.net
Thanks for you help.

Re: TOC or Index via Character Styles
Are you using CS? If so, then what you need is to use the nested styles feature of paragraph styles.
You set up the character styles you want to use and then you call them up in a paragraph style using nested styles.

Re: TOC or Index via Character Styles
Dave,
I think you missed my point. I am trying to create a TOC that uses Character Styles rather than Paragraph styles. The problem is that InDesign's TOC command ONLY uses Paragraph Styles.
Now my problem is that I can't figure out how to script this:
Select each occurance of a specified Character Style and add it to a Reference Index.
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
