TOC > PDF Bug
I notice that on particularly short Table of Contents entries, the elipses between the entry and the page number does not convert to PDF. The bug does not seem to be related to a character number, but rather the distance, as different size fonts applied to the same text change when the bug does and does not occur. Is there any way to resolve this in InDesign?

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
joseph,
Are you using and actual ellipses character for the tab leader? The reason I ask is because I've seen this problem crop up when using a period as the tab leader. The problem only occurs when the PDF is created with "eBook Tags". Turn off these structure tags and the problem goes away. My work around has been to use an ellipses instead of a period and this has always fixed the issue (although the spacing of the table leader is a bit different then when using a period). I reported this issue to Adobe technical support and they acknowledged it as a bug but I've seen no fix for it.

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
Thank you Phil. The problem was resolved by disabling the eBook tags. However, I do use a period as opposed to an ellipses as the separator. How do you specify that the ellipses be used instead?

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
In the Tabs palette select the tab that has the leader associated with it and paste in an ellipses character for the leader symbol.

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
Phil
I have got no response to two posts: 'What to do when a table of contents stops working?' and 'A corrupted TOC style and rotated text frames?'.
Can you enlighten me on what to do when a TOC stops working? As my posts say, it wasn't until I made a simple edit to a minor heading in a rotated frame that my TOC in an ID2 file stopped functioning after working fine before.
The style is properly created with three levels of heading, but none are now being recognized. I am getting nothing in the frame when I update the TOC.
Any ideas? I haven't seen this before.

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
Tony,
Sorry, I don't have a solution for this. Have you tried generating a new TOC rather than updating the existing one?

Re: TOC > PDF Bug
Yes, I have deleted the old TOC style and re-created it, to no avail.
My other thought was to try to rebuild the document, such as can be done with QuarkXPress (copying thumbnails to a new document) and Ventura (adding a chapter at a time to a new document), but I can't find anything in the InDesign 2 manual that indicates that this type of process is possible.
It is very disturbing that ID suddenly can't find nominated paragraph styles in a TOC style. This is a major corruption. Hopefully it won't spread.
