Tool Pallets
This isn't a problem, but I'd like to hear how others dock their tool pallets.
On a 20in monitor, I'd still like more room. With 4-5 pallets it starts taking up space.
It would be nice to dock the pallets as in GoLive: collapse the pallet and it goes off to the side of the screen, click the tab and it opens.
I haven't explored keyboard shortcuts fully, may be an answer there. QuicKeys may be an option, but after years of upgrades, their current upgrade is almost full price of the program. Besides with the new OS, you wonder if it's a reveleant program any more. Used to be something I couldn't do without.
Suggestions and comments would be appreciated.
I'm running OSX with ill 10.

Re: Tool Pallets
Danny,
Being able to save a custom workspace, or better yet be able to dock palettes like in Photoshop, GoLive or InDesign is a request many of us have. Unfortunately there is no way to save a custom workspace except to keep a customized preference file and keep replacing the one in the preference folder.
Being able to save a custom workspace is essential for those of us with one monitor. For me there is no perfect setup. I am constantly rearranging things to find hidden palettes and pull some of them closer to where I'm working... only to have to clean up and start over.
I do generally like to keep my text and paragraph palettes at the top, followed by my layers palette, then swatches.
At the bottom of my window, starting on the left side I like to line up palettes that transform paths... Wait a minute and I'll post a screen shot of my general startout setup.

Danny,
Here is a condensed version (made page smaller to fit better here) of my initial setup... or close to it anyway.

Re: Tool Pallets
You're welcome. Some of us are hoping Adobe will put a way to save workspace in an update to CS... since it really should have been there to begin with. I'd take this simple necessity over some of the less used gingerbread any day.

Re: Tool Pallets
There are probably as many workable palette arrangements as there are users. I have my own, that's not too different from Linda's, and I try to use an approximation of it for all my Adobe apps. Savable workspaces must be on the horizon. Until then, there's always the magic Tab key.

Re: Tool Pallets
For several years, Adobe has been gradually making its applications more consistent in interface, interoperability, etc. With the Creative Suite, this effort has accelerated. Without any direct personal knowledge, I'd say it was very likely that (since this feature is in InDesign and Photoshop) it will appear very soon in Illustrator.

Re: Tool Pallets
There is a plug in called Vector Studio that has this feature in a powerful way. Allows for many options of course you have to buy it though the other features are excellent as well.

Re: Tool Pallets
You can assemble 'trains" of pallettes by dragging the tab of one palette up over the bottom of another. When you see a dark line appear, let go and the two pallettes will be 'joined'.
This helps reduce to a minimum the amount of space you need to give the palettes, and helps keep them in standardized positions.
Try it.

Re: Tool Pallets
We just added second monitors to our workstations. All the pallets on one screen, the drawing on the other. Wonderful. The time savings have easily paid for the (cheap) displays.
