Default Total newbie--please be patient

I've tried several flavors of Linux and finally settled on Ubuntu--received
my CDs the other day. Trouble is, whenever I try to set up a dual boot with
my Win XP Pro (SP2) system, I have no mouse. The only one I have is just a
cheapo Micro optical PS/2. It's got to be a hardware problem because after
booting into Linux, it won't work in Windows either unless I cold boot the
system. This problem is across the board with any type of Linux. Do I need
to buy another mouse, or has anyone else encountered a similar problem? If
not, any recommendations as to a specific brand of mouse?

If it doesn't work with a PS/2 mouse, try a USB mouse. They are cheap
enough. If it doesn't work you can return it to the store and tell
them truthfully that it doesn't work with Linux which is what you
bought it for,

I tried the same mouse on 5.10. It didn't work. I switched my Logitech
from my windoze machine to my 5.10 box and it worked perfectly. the micro
mouse works on the windoze okay. I don't like it as well as the Logitech,
but what do you expect for 10 bucks. I would dump it for the Logitech.

OBTW - I'm not dual-booting.

This may be of some assistance...
Btw a good tip when using google as your search engine is to put /linux
after the main address.
eg www.google.com/linux
