Default Transfer linked files to directory other than"documents"?

Is there a way to transfer an external file to a location that a user has
access to, like a traditional FTP client? When I use Contribute's linking
features, it transfers files to folders it calls "documents" ... what if I
wanted to overwrite a file in a folder other than "documents"? Do we need to
deploy an FTP client to users along with Contribute?

    Thx! Ted

If you are administrator, you can edit the role settings to place documents
    wherever you want.

Open administer website dialog from edit menu and select 'User and Roles'
category > select the role you want change the settings and click on Edit Role
settings button." > change the File placement rule 'All microsoft and pdf
    files' as per your requirement.
