Here are two pages you might use for inspiration:
http://www.projectseven.com/tutorials/autolayers/

http://www.projectseven.com/hof/index.htm
(choose "Apparently Transparently" from the jump menu)

The technniques used work on Mozilla browsers and MSIE (PC).

um, al? since that autolayers tutorial falls under the "tutorial" dir, do ya
think maybe we could have the tutorial for the transparent part? first one
looks like the electrica vertical flyout menu but... i don't see anything
about the translucent part in there...well, at least it's not obvious to me
at this point.

The tutorial is not done. I listed an example that is not yet publicly
linked. It's not difficult. Building popup menus is a very easy process and
one can use the techniques already published on our site (free or
commercial). The hardest part of making the menu example is writing the
style sheet, but that's right there in the page for anyone to look at and
also contains the rules to make the divs transparent.

Al,
I followed the link to the tutorial and in NN 7.1 there is no
transparency. It is fine in IE6. I found the links to the style sheets
and viewed them to find the transparency rules.
Appearently NN7.1 (at least mine)is ingnoring the import of the version
5 style sheet. Assuming here that NN7 is a mozilla browser.

Mozilla experimented with an opacity filter but dropped it in the latest
releases... bowing to pressure from the purists, I imagine. There is talk
about features like this being included in future CSS versions. Note to PNG
people: this has nothing at all to do with images.

They made one of those annoying little changes. On that page you use:

..p7menDiv {
-moz-opacity: 50%;
filter: alpha(opacity=50);
}

Instead of a %, you have to use a decimal. Try:

-moz-opacity: .50;

Thanks Joe. I'd heard they dropped it, didn't know they changed it.

AL,Joe,

I made the change to the style sheet and it worked in NN7.1.
