Re: Transparency
ok, can you be more specific about using imageready please ? Thankyou, i appreciate it :)
EDIT - Found it. Borders are gone but imageready seems to be "optimising" it and its having some unplesant results. Can I stop it ?

Re: Transparency
If let say yo want to bring down the alpha of your image to 50%, select your
image, and on the top left of your layers pallette, just change the number
100 to 50.

Re: Transparency
Learned something new there. I didn't know that one. I don't understand
its use though, since you can set the Transparency of any Layer on its
own in the Property Inspector.

transparency
hey... i have a quick question. i would like to place text or an image under a tiff file... something clear, umm, maybe a piece of glass. when i import a file from photoshop into quark i cannot do anything with the transparency of the imported file. i say all of that to ask: HOW WOULD I PLACE AND MAKE VISIBLE TEXT UNDER THE IMPORTED GLASS IMAGE? (i have seen it done, so i know it's possible...)... help. thanks in advance for your solutions.

Re: transparency
hi richard, i do intend on working on the image in photoshop, but i will export the finished image to quark. as to what i wish to do, without giving the idea away... say i want to place my face through a pane of glass -- without actually having a photo of me through a window pane.

Re: transparency
Well, if you are trying to make an image as a composite like you describe, you'll be better off with the manipulations in Photoshop. HOWEVER, if this is something that you want to look professional, you may need more than just an image of your face and a window...a lot often goes into preparation of special effects images, and the type you describe here seems like a planned composite rather than something I'd try to build from scratch. for example, taking a picture of a pane of glass smashed with a brick from behind (fast shutter) and then a picture of you in the same lighting and window frame -- perhaps even without moving the camera... These would tend to work more easily together than two distinct images from different settings -- or anything you make from scratch.

Transparency
Hello,
I have made some objects with texture transparency but my camera doesn't
display them correctly : I see the object which is far on the object near.
The priority of distance isn't respected.
Is there someone to help me???

Transparency
I have made an image in photoshop and want to put it on a webpage in transparent form (so that the background can't be seen). I don't have a background in the image, but when I save it for web and try to place it in FrontPage, there is that white rectangle behind the image. Could somebody help me please?

Re: Transparency
Sari,
Transparencies can be a tricky business, especially for someone relatively new to the whole thing. First and foremost, it depends on what format you're trying to save in (I presume GIF since nothing else functionally supports transparency on the web).
So if you are trying to save a JPG with a transparent background, forget it - won't work for web. If your image is already a GIF and has a transparent background, it should post fine with Front Page assuming you are looking at it in preview mode or looking at it in a browser.
What I always recommend is to use a transparency only when you absolutely have to. It is usually far easier to place your image on a background that matches your web page - usually.
That way, you don't really have to futz with file format since some images look terrible as gifs, and *should* be JPG's. Sometimes that's not possible, like when you have a patterned background.
So bottom line? Tell us the file format. If it's GIF, there's no reason why it wouldn't display transparent, provided you truly did have a "blank" transparent background. If it's a JPG, you can't do it (functionally).
Peace,
Tony

Re: Transparency
Thanks Tony! My image was in jpeg-form so no wonder it didn't work. I decided to go with white background for my website so the white color behind the design doesn't matter. But it was very good to know what was wrong! I learned something new today :)
Thanks!

Transparency
I am building a web site and currently trying to build a picture frame for an animated gif I have. I am using some of the bit map tools to do this and then filling things in with color. I then crop the image so there is very little canvas left. The only canvas is around the round edges and other odd angles. I save this for the web and I get it to be transparent but when I put the item over colored parts of my web the round corners look bad and have a scratchy white quality to them. If there is any who could help that would be great.

Transparency
I am creating a logo for a website that has to be vectored (or I get aliasing
problems). I want to create an outline of a symbol and fill it with the silver
gradient. Then I've created another layer with a second vector-drawn image
inside it. That was no problem. Where things are getting tricky, I have to
make the SECOND vector transparent THROUGH the first. Meaning this: the
second layer goes on top of the first later, but shows the background(canvas)
of the document anywhere inside itself.
This is kindof hard to explain, and I haven't been totally clear, I know.
Could anyone tell me how I would go about doing this? Thanks

Re: Transparency
I'm assuming you made that graphic in photoshop so just select the white area
with the magic wand and delete it (making it transparent) and save the file as
a png...then import that to flash...the other alternative (that is worse) is to
use the vector trace tool in flash and then select the white fill once it is
isolated and use that to mask off the image...this will potentially work but
will most likely have problems, shoot for the photoshop method if possible
Hope this helps

Re: Transparency
No. I made that image in fireworks MX 2004. I used GIF format, and set to be transperent. That img is transperent when it's stand alone but when I import it to flash, transperent is lost.
