I'd like to use this window shade transparency effect with a web site I'm developing. http://www.gramercytavern.com/ Go to the menu link to see what I mean. Thanks.

They are using Flash, so you may want to ask in the Flash forums, but if you want to be using JavaScript, then you may be able to use Spry's Fade effect to get something similar to what you're asking about:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/spry/samples/effects/fade_sample.html

In particularity take a look at example two as it toggles the fade effect. I think that instead of applying it to the onclick of you'd add an onmouseover and a onmouseout to the element you want to trigger the fade in/out.

I've not done this myself, but if you try it out and have further questions, you should ask in the Spry forum:

I'm going to try doing this although I don't know if I can. I'm an old print
designer who works in a vacuum (freelance) and is teaching myself web design.
So far, I've kept my designs simple with the philosophy that good design is
more often simple, clean and functional.
This is the first time I'll be trying something innovative aside from the
common behavior scripts provided by Dreamweaver. I'll let you know if I can
achieve the effect.
