Transparency of type issues in ID 2.0.2
Trying to have only 1 type element on a page become transparent. However, when I effect that change, ALL type elements redeuce in transparency. These elements are not grouped, so why would they all change? I have moved the elements onto separate layers to no effect.corrupt file?

Re: Transparency of type issues in ID 2.0.2
Would a workaround be sufficient?
Don't know what is causing your issue but you could create the text that you want to make transparent in AI, CorelDraw or PS, place the image and make it transparent.
If this isn't good enough, please wait and see what other users may have to say. If you are on a deadline, you may want to use this workaround in the meantime.

Re: Transparency of type issues in ID 2.0.2
Hey,
This happens with InDesign CS also ---sort of. When you turn on transparency on one text frame, other text frames (possibly only ones with the same font) lose their anti-aliasing, so they become jagged. I don't think I've seen them get transparent, but without anti-aliasing, the fonts can look thinner and less pronounced.
This is a bug in the rendering engine of the program... and unfortunately it wasn't fixed for CS.

Re: Transparency of type issues in ID 2.0.2
thedubc,
Try throwing away your InDesign preferences. I've used transparency a lot, and have never encountered this problem.
Biz,
Likewise I've never encountered this issue. Do you mean they lose anti-aliasing on-screen? When printing? When creating a PDF? I cannot reproduce this situation, nor have I heard of others complain about it. Can you give more specifics?

Re: Transparency of type issues in ID 2.0.2
Definitely can give you more specifics...
This happens on screen for me -- although I think the generated PDF also exhibits the same appearance.
Easiest way to recreate this (I've done this on 3 machines now!! -- all Windows though...) is to place a high-res EPS file that's dark enough in tone to show white text easily above it... Then create two text frames. In the bottom one, add a few paragraphs of text in a thin, serif font, like Adobe Jenson Pro Light or Adobe Garamond maybe. In the top one, add one large text block --like a heading -- in a much larger font. Make sure you have anti-aliasing on in the preferences (this is the default) and that your display performance is set to HIGH-QUALITY. Then click on the top text frame (large text block) and apply a drop shadow.
For me, when the drop shadow is turned on, BOTH text frames lose their smooth, anti-aliasing. What's strange is that the bottom text frame doesn't have the drop shadow applied and yet it still exhibits this aliasing problem...
Have a look at the URL below... I posted some images of what I am seeing in InDesign. The last pair is closest to what I just described to you...

I could also see this happening if the transparency effect were part of a character or paragraph style....
