Transparent and clickable icons - Mac Programming

Hi, I am trying to create an icon for OS X which has areas that are both transparent and clickable. I have attempted to do this by creating an image with an alpha layer indicating the transparent areas, and importing that into Icon Composer. Then, I imported a solid black image as the 1-bit hit mask for that image into Icon Composer, so that the entire hit mask was filled in. But when I tried this out, the transparent parts of the icon were in fact transparent, but they weren't clickable. (This was on the Desktop, the Dock seems to ...

    Default Transparent and clickable icons

    Hi,

I am trying to create an icon for OS X which has areas that are both
transparent and clickable. I have attempted to do this by creating an
image with an alpha layer indicating the transparent areas, and
importing that into Icon Composer. Then, I imported a solid black
image as the 1-bit hit mask for that image into Icon Composer, so that
the entire hit mask was filled in. But when I tried this out, the
transparent parts of the icon were in fact transparent, but they
weren't clickable. (This was on the Desktop, the Dock seems to
    automatically let everything be clickable.)

Now, I don't know what to do. Can anyone help me?

    Thanks!

IIRC, the way to deal with this is to make the transparent areas a
teeeeeensy-weeeeeeeensy bit non-transparent. In other words instead of
an alpha value of zero give them an alpha value of, say, .01. The user's
eye will hardly see these areas - they will pretty much look transparent -
but because alpha is not zero, they will be clickable.
