Default Transparent areas show up as off color

When I export an InDesign document to PDF (Acrobat 6) and then print on a color printer, the transparent areas show up as a slightly different color. For example, instead of printing white, the transparent areas are cream colored. On-screen, the PDF looks fine. The problem seems worse in Acrobat 4. Any suggestions?

    1) Make sure that your PostScript printer and/or RIP supports transparency features.

    2) Make sure that you are applying transparency correctly in InDesign. Layered elements must be of the same color model. You cannot mix a PANTONE spot color over CMYK, nor can you mix an RGB image over a CMYK image. Because you are getting problems with the flattened design in Acrobat 4, I assume that this (#2) is the problem.
