I'm curious if there is a way to use my linked psd files in AICS without having to create a clipping path. The file displays properly in AI, but when I went to write my ps file, I got the warning about spot colour and transparency (the image is on top of a pms spot colour). When I flattened the image and background I got a white box around the image instead of the invisible background of the psd import.

Is there an easier way than masking?

    Thanks!

Dave, don't listen to those grumpies -
if you created your line drawing in Illy, just save it as an eps, dump any white block you may have put in a lower layer and then import it into InDesign or Xpress.

If this is an image you created in photoshop or say, Painter, and so it's a bitmap, well, that's more complex, but try isolating the lines from the background in Photoshop using what ever selection method you deem the best, (and you may spend a good hour+ at least selecting the image area properly) then invert the selection if necessary so as to select the background, then go to menu HELP-EXPORTING A TRANSPARENT IMAGE then select the option "i've selected the background to render transparent, and follow the rest of the instructions - save as a Photoshop eps file with the best tiff preview, and at least "binary" in the final dialogue box.
this isn't the best solution, but it's worked for me in certain situations.

Searching the forum first is always the best idea, since the answer to your question may have been answered mere days or minutes before you asked it, and the person who posted the answer is not likely to re-post. So if you don't search first, you may not get your solution. It's also polite to other posters not to ignore their threads and "steal" their potential solutions.

But pardon my grumpiness. I hadn't had my morning coffee yet.

    Default Transparent background

    Hi,
I am trying to import a gif image from fireworks to freehand, put in freehand
the image background becomes light yellow. Before importing the image I have
separated the image from its original background by using mask and pencil
tools. I have tried doing the background both transparent and white but the
yellow squere around the picture stays. Is this a freehand problem or do I have
to do something first in fireworks?

I also would like to know how can I do two different fotos into the same size
in freehand? I have two different sizes excel tables that I have saved as adobe
illustrator format. I would like them to be the same size, but I do not know
how to do that in freehand.

    Hope someone can help me.
    Thanks
