Re: Transparent Background
In MX it is possible through :
Publish settings - HTML - then go to window mode and set it to transparent
widowless.
It might be the same in flash 5 but i can't remeber.

transparent background
I started using Director 7 on PC and I am unable to trim white space around my
cast members. The casts members are are drawn by pencil and are imported from
photoshop (the Lasso Tool in Photoshop dosn't work very well with this type of
drawings).
I figured out that I should probably click "Option" in the Import Window, but
this option is unavilable. Why?
Is there another whay I could contract white space?
Thanks!

You should update to 7.0.2. If you can't find the updater, e-mail me off-list
and I'll make it available to you.
Are you sure it is really white, as in rgb(255, 255, 255)? Director is normally> and I am unable to trim white space around my

excessively keen to trim white space in an image.

Re: Transparent Background
John:
I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but its not working. I've selected the two paths that are enclosed within the letter, selected "Object > Compound Path > Make.
When I put a color background behind the letter, the spaces are filled with whatever the current swatch color is....
I need to import the logo into Indesign.

Re: Transparent Background
You are not quite explaining what you want to do. Do you want to see through the opening in the letters and through the background color or do you want to see through the opening and see the background color.

Re: Transparent Background
Do this short exercise.
Create a 2" circle filled with a blue swatch and stroked with a black swatch with center point at x=4.25, y=5.5
Copy and paste in front and in transform change center point to x=4.25, y=5 and dimension to a .5" circle.
Copy the .5" circle and paste in front and change center point to x=4.25, y=6.
(Sort of looks like a button on a shirt at this point)
Select alect and object>compound path>make
It should knock out the inner holes. If you now place a fill behind the object, it will show through the holes.
If you ever have a path that does not "cut out" the shape, direct select that path, in attribute palette select the reverse path direction on and off buttons. (center buttons)
To test, direct select one of those .5" circles from the compound path and reverse the direction back and forth.

Re: Transparent Background
If you just want to see through the two interior circles of the letter form select the letter form and the two circles and make your compound path and you will be able to see through those circles to see the background color. If you want to see through both the letter form and background color you can copy the letter form paste in front
in the layers palette select the bottom copy of the compound path and release the compound path delete that letter form select those remaining circles send to the back and select the shape of the background by hold the shift key when selecting it so the circles in the back and the background color shape are selected and make a compound path of them. However with this method if you move the background color shape the cutout circles will move relative to the letters and you will not be able to see clearly through them again.

Re: Transparent Background
Looks like you just needed to also select the outer (letter) shape when doing the compound path

Transparent background
I'm downloading clipart from a clipart web site, in jpeg and eps formats. I then need to import the art into Freehand. However, I'm finding that they all have non-transparent backgrounds. What do I need to do in Photoshop to make them able to import without the backgrounds? I tried removing them and resaving as a tiff, but FH didn't recognize it as a tiff with a transparency. Thanks!

Transparent Background
I have created a simple line drawing that I would like to encorporate into a business logo for use on business cards, letterhead, etc. How do I make
the background transparent so that it doesn't show up as a white block which covers up the text and graphics underneath?
(I'm in AI version 11.0.0)

Re: Transparent Background
I have noticed a trend with Indesign and AICS eps files where I get a white background even when I should not. Setting a Clipping path in Indesign fixes it but it's still annoying. I'm trying to track down the exact cause.
