Transparent PNG's? - Macromedia Dynamic HTML

Hey... Recently needed to delve into the deep scary recesses of transparent backgrounds in HTML and CSS... Found the following code which works like a bomb: background-image:url(images/detailsBlack.jpg); background-position:center; background-repeat:repeat-y; filter:alpha(opacity=50); -moz-opacity:0.5; -khtml-opacity: 0.5; opacity: 0.5; the problem is that it makes the background image of the table...

    Hey...

    Default Transparent PNG's?

    Hey...

    Recently needed to delve into the deep scary recesses of transparent
    backgrounds in HTML and CSS... Found the following code which works like a bomb:

    background-image:url(images/detailsBlack.jpg);
    background-position:center;
    background-repeat:repeat-y;
    filter:alpha(opacity=50);
    -moz-opacity:0.5;
    -khtml-opacity: 0.5;
    opacity: 0.5;

    the problem is that it makes the background image of the table AND all it's
    contents transparent instead of just the background image. I tried putting the
    styling inline and that also didn't work:

    <table
    style="background-image:url(images/detailsBlack.jpg);background-position:center;

    background-repeat:repeat-y;filter:alpha(opacity=50);-moz-opacity:0.5;-khtml-opac
    ity: 0.5;opacity: 0.5;" width="200" border="1"cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0">

    Any help would be appreciated so much! I need a table with a sem-transparent
    background image and content on top (text and images) that aren't transparent
    at all..

    Thanks!
    L

    You've already answered your own question in the subject line.
    Use a PNG.

    What I do is to use background:transparent; and then use a png graphic, like a
    50% white or whatever to get the effect.

    Setting the background to none can also work if you use a png. This even works
    in IE 6, which is as old as I care to be concerned with as I want an easy life
    with no stress!

    You were right Michael...no need for all that jazz when a simple png will do the trick :)

    Image Transparency may not work accurately on some IE6 browsers.

    Useful code. Do not use table. Instead use DIV.
