trial download problems
:frown; Sorry to be on the experienced user forum, but I need some quick help.
I've downloaded the Trial version of Contribute 3 (3.1) , but can't open it.
When I try, Windows Media Player opens and then a get an error message saying
that the file won't open because it is in a format that is not supported. I
meet all the system requirements noted in download. I also have the necessary
Windows installer, apparently. Any ideas on why it won't open, unzip, or
install. THANKS

Re: trial download problems
The three solutions that everyone gets are -
1. Use a different browser to download
2. Don't use a download accelerator
3. Make sure your temporary internet files folder has enough extra capacity
to contain the complete download
Try those....

Re: trial download problems
The is not a reply but a feeble attempt to talk to someone about how to connect
to a web site and try out what I have learned on the trial edition tutorials.
Or does this quick reply even get me into the loop of a conversation?

Re: trial download problems
It doesn't have to be a web site. The web site address can be the same as your network location. Just create your "web site" in a folder on your network and go at it.

Re: trial download problems
By the way, the file downloaded 2-3 days ago was corrupt.

Re: trial download problems
No, it's not corrupt. It's checked for corruption frequently, and, as far
as I know, has never been found to be.

Re: trial download problems
:frown;
If this is the case then I am rethinking purchasing the full single licence
for Contribute 3. This would be a true disappointment as I had my website
created with the idea of using Contribute 3 to continue to update my web sites
without having to 1) learn Dreamweaver or 2) having to pay my webmaster $95 /hr
to make changes. There has to be a way to connect to a site and make edits
like the tutorials explain so well; whether one is trying the free trial
download or the purchase of the $149 singular use CD Box. Any help from any
experienced Contribute 3 user would help both myself and those who are
answering me with similar problems. A cry for help is on the virtual wind of
these words!

Re: trial download problems
Certainly - the trial is a fully functional version of Contribute. You can
connect to your website, edit it, publish pages, whatever. Have you tried
making a connection to your site? At what point are you having trouble?
To the original poster, whose Contribute trial is opening up in Win Media
Player - that sounds like an extension mapping problem. WMP apparently thinks
that it should open any files with a .msi extension. Instead, it should be
opened with Windows Installer. Here's what I would try: Open Windows Media
Player. Open the View menu, select Options. Click on the Formats tab. You'll
see a list of formats and checkboxes. Click on each of the formats, and read
the description that shows up underneath. Do any of them mention a .msi
extension? If so, un-check the box for that format. Close WMP, and try
opening the Contribute trial again. You may have to reboot if WMP still wants
to open it. If that doesn't work (or if you didn't find any format listed that
mentioned a .msi extension), I'd uninstall WMP, then install Contribute, then
reinstall WMP.

Re: trial download problems
I had earlier been using the trial version and later installed the full
licence. I am thinking that it may have to do with a bug going arround in the
trial version and because it wasn't compleatly cleared mabey that is why the
full version doesnt work either. I was wondering if sience you have the same
problems if you had earlier been using the TRIAL version.

Re: trial download problems
Christina:
I am having problems connecting with my FTP server. When I click the access a
Web Page, I get the form for those without a Connection Key (as I have not yet
purchased the full licence of Contribute. I type in my web site it shows up
but then I am to also connect to my server so I have three bits of info to type
in: 1: Name of ftp server 2: User name:Which I Know and 3: My Password: that I
also know. The click on continue. I have got nothing but error windows asking
for the correct server as mine is not accepting the connection etc.. I have
tried three variations of the server name, called them (ipowerweb) 3 times
asking for their servername (or host name which is on my contract with them)
but still this is what is keeping me from making the edit my web site
connection.

Re: trial download problems
Ned: I have only been trying to use the Trial Version to make the connection
(see the reply to Christina's suggestion), so maybe it does have a bug but I
have yet to purchase the full version and do not want to until I can accomplish
everything I want to do, in the Trial Version first. Then I will put down the
$149 + shipping. I am still at a loss.
